2017 – 2018 Meeting Schedule

Monthly meetings are held October-June on the second Tuesday of the month in the 2nd floor Library at Medway High School, 88 Summer Street, Medway.

6:45 SEPAC Business, 7:00 PM Speaker, unless otherwise noted.

October 17 (*please note date change*) – Transition to College with Dr. Jennifer DelRey
  • Dr. Delrey will present on transitioning to college

*Our regularly scheduled October meeting would take place on a no-school day, so the date has been changed to the 3rd Tuesday*

November 8 – (*please note date & location change*)The Behavior Code with Jessica Minihan

  • Jessica Minihan will speak to parents after her presentation to the faculty on Strategies for Kids with Anxiety.

*The presenter was not available on our regularly scheduled November meeting date, so the date has been changed to the 2nd Wednesday*

*Note also – location changed to Medway Middle School Auditorium*

December 12th – Wellness and Holiday Stress.  Conversation with Dr. Ryan Sherman, Medway Public Schools’ Director of Wellness.

  

January – No meeting

 

February 13th* – Federation for Children with Special Needs presentation “Basic Rights in Special Education”

  • Basic Rights in Special Education. This workshop, presented by Jonathan Smith of the Federation for Children with Special Needs will highlight important rights and responsibilities for parents with children in Special Education.  Free and open to the public.

(*note that the topics for the February and March presentations have been switched in order to allow the presentation content to better build on one another)

March 13th* –   Federation for Children with Special Needs Presentation:  “An IEP for My Child”
  •   An IEP for My Child: This workshop, presented by Jonathan Smith of the Federation for Children with Special Needs, explains the Individual Education Program (IEP) document, its development, how to articulate a vision, write measurable annual goals, monitor a child’s progress and understand how the document will support a student.   Free and open to the public.

April 10th – Director of Student Services and Nominations

  • Kathleen Bernklow, MPS Director of Students Services, and Donald Aicardi, MPS Director of Finance and Operations will speak with members about a variety of topics related to special education in Medway, including Extended Year Services and the funding process for Special Education.  If you have specific questions or topics that you would like to see addressed, please submit them ahead of time at medwayspedpac@gmail.com.
  • At this meeting, we will also select an elections coordinator, who will conduct the elections for SPEAC 2018-2019 Officers, and the coordinator will request Officer nominations.  We need new officers for next year, so please consider running for office!

  • Please bring your enthusiasm, questions, suggestions, and ideas for programming and speakers for the 2018-2019 school year.

*Tentative* June 5 at TC Scoops – Parent Support Night

  • Join us for a child-free night out at TC Scoops. This is not an official SEPAC meeting, but an opportunity for parents to gather, meet other parents of children with special needs, network, and provide & receive support.  Plus, if you’d like, you can purchase a snack or beverage from a fabulous Medway business – did you know that in addition to their delicious ice cream, coffee, and hot chocolate, TC Scoops now offers a Libations menu featuring adult beverages?   Come out and celebrate the near-completion of another school year with fellow parents!
